Steve has worked for Surf Market for 30 years, and has been an owner for 18 of those years. He has a strong sense of responsibility to the community, staff members, vendors, and the environment. Steve has strived to make Surf Market a real benefit to all its stakeholders, and wants to see how far it can go in creating good for the local community.
As an owner, Teri holds our team to high standards in all of our administrative and accounting functions. In addition, when Teri is on-site, everyone knows the expectation is for cleanliness and organization, excellent customer service, and professionalism.
Alan has been in the grocery business his entire adult life. With an exceptional eye for detail and a work ethic that came from growing up as a third generation farmer, Alan brings a practical wisdom to daily tasks and big picture planning alike.
Kim has over 15 years of experience in food service. With her exceptional work ethic and organizational skills, Kim is committed to constant learning and improvement both for herself, and for her team
Meat & Seafood Manager
Jeff has worked as a butcher for nearly 30 years. After all of that experience what he enjoys most is serving his customers. In his own words, “My customers are my friends”. If there is anything Jeff can do for you, whether that means creating a special cut for an occasion, suggesting a recipe, or sourcing a hard to find item, don’t hesitate to call him or send him an email.
Assistant Meat & Seafood Manager
Todd brings over 30 years of experience to our Meat & Seafood department. He enjoys serving customers, exchanging recipes, training the team, and constantly working to improve and grow the department.
Deli and Bakery Manager
Chef Phillip (Phil) brings an incredible wealth of experience to his role as Deli – Bakery Manager at Surf Market, having been formally trained by two of California’s most prominent chefs, George Morrone and Bradley Ogden. Phil received his degree from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Surf Market is excited to have Phil on our management team.
Assistant Cashier Manager
In addition to her responsibilities as a buyer, Melanie runs the Cashier department for Surf Market. With a light touch, and a sharp sense of humor, Melanie leads her team to excel in accuracy and customer service.
Kelly wears many hats at Surf Market. She is responsible for HR, facilities & maintenance, safety, and events. The saying, “if you want something done ask the busiest person you know”, applies to Kelly. One of her favorite duties is guiding staff through our training program and helping each individual achieve his or her career goals at the market.
Dan has been with Surf for over 13 years. In addition to his role as Produce Manager, Dan is responsible for overseeing the Cashier, and Wine & Spirits departments. He is also the scheduling and advertising coordinator. Dan loves people and working as part of a team. In his various roles he strives to bring out the best in each of his teammates and to foster communication and team spirit.
Grocery & Specialty Buyer
As a young man Ron started in the grocery industry working chain stores in L.A., and he never looked back. Grocery is truly his passion. Ron has worked a number of different grocery formats from large chain stores to quick stop style convenience stores. We are fortunate to have his experience and passion as our grocery and specialty buyer.
Juan Ortiz Duran
Frozen & Deli/Grocery Buyer, Maintenance
Juan is our frozen food and grocery deli buyer. Additionally, Juan keeps all of our machinery and refrigeration equipment running as our one-man maintenance department. That is no small task, but Juan does it all with a calm, cool attitude.
